no speech is illegal in the united states. but that is a hard thing for other people in the world to understand in a world where governments often do control speech, they do control the media and the arts and broadcast. so when egyptian television is reporting there's a bigoted crude american movie insulting islams and muslims, people who don't understand how american free speech works will think the american government okayed the movie. we do not ban speech, even stupid and offensive and provocative speech, we don't ban it.
